The Operations Manager is the key operational lead with responsibility to execute the production plan. With an engrained Health & Safety ethic the Operations Manager is responsible for delivering a safe efficient working platform where on time delivery is maintained and quality standards upheld. The Operations Manager will ensure that product lead-time and inventory are continually reduced in support of the on-time delivery target. In addition this role is accountable for operational efficiency, workplace organisation with clear visual management of the operation providing a recognizable current status of operations. About the role You'll have responsibility for the deployment of people providing management and leadership to ensure that the manufacturing team remains engaged with and committed to the delivery of products to our customers that are both Right-First-Time and On-Time. We require a leader that has a strong understanding of metrics and driving continuous improvement through lean principals to address deviations in those metrics. Your strong continuous improvement skills are required to gain efficiencies alongside the ability to manage multiple data sets and understanding financial impacts from the operation. You'll have accountability for delivery of budgets and business plan within their delegated authority levels. Accountable for retention and development of ISO accreditation including ISO, BSI & UKAS, OHSAS is essential. Key accountabilities of the role are; • Lead, develop, support and motivate a team of Manufacturing Managers, Operators and subject matter experts to ensure best practice delivery of customer solutions • The Operations Manager will manage a team of 5 direct reports. • Delivery of the business strategy through a seamless and professional manufacturing operation that ensures continual external [ISO] accreditation • Drive people through effective KPIs engraining C.I activity to improve deviations • Understand measure and improve O.E.E. • Maximise safety performance and environmental contribution to externally accredited standards • Ensure budgets are managed and delivered within span of control • Maximise operational margin through intelligent deployment of people and equipment. • Understand business priorities, communicate these to the team and accurately report on progress to the Head of Manufacturing and Automation • Maintain a Right-First-Time Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and associated action plan to achieve 100%. • Maintain an On-Time, In-Full KPI and associated action plan to achieve 100% • Overall responsibility for quality inspecting, reporting, contacting clients and overseeing daily quality information with respect of goods in and goods out About you You will need the following requirements to be a success in the role • Have a proven track record of undertaking a leadership role in a related Manufacturing environment • Have a demonstrable skills in deploying lean principals • Possess strong SHEQ understanding, with a 'Safety First' approach that drives best safety operational practice along with excellent working knowledge of SHEQ legislation, company policy, compliance and QA procedures • Encourage a culture of safety and environment compliance and reporting • Strong working knowledge of fabrication disciplines • Strong financial acumen, with experience of accurately forecasting and reporting business performance and achievement of budgets • Strong IT skills, with the ability to communicate effectively via email and report writing • Encourages and invests in sustainable innovation • Actively encourages the team to focus on customer needs • Look at ways to align our services to the customer to help them achieve their goals • Consider the method of communication and the message conveyed • Measure and reports on results, identifying ways to improve • Demonstrable skills in managing a team and the associated factors with this such as learning and development and seeking opportunities for the team to grow, your approach to people management with the demonstrable ability to set a clear direction, influencing and inspiring others effectively • Experience in building confidence in others, motivating and empowering the team • Effective people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and performance manage a team of Managers • Involves the whole team in shaping the way forward About Us At Royal Mail we connect companies, customers and communities across the country, delivering a 'one-price-goes-anywhere', universal postal service to more than 30 million addresses.
