Why this role matters The BT Sport platform supports over 3 million customers, many of these customers use the web browser to watch our sport content using a complex combination of suppliers and technologies. It must be highly scalable, reliable and resilient, whilst being continuously expanded to provide new services for BT Consumer. The role holder is responsible for specialising in the development of complex responsive user interfaces on Android for the BT Sport customer base. The role holder will have experience of working in an agile development team with shared goals and objectives, and will have full experience of the software lifecycle. They will have demonstrated experience in a number of programming languages and development methodologies specifically in Android. The role holder will be responsible for largely autonomous working on critical Android client components for BT Sport. They will have experience delivering supportable software backed up by automated tests and of working with internal and external teams in clarifying requirements and managing delivery of user stories. The role holder will have experience of troubleshooting in life issues through to resolution. They will be able to work with colleagues across the business to integrate software deliveries with internal and external systems. The role holder will organise and prioritise their activities to meet business objectives (through ensuring delivery of releases supporting programme deliveries for BT Consumer and EE), solve business problems and further business success by applying industry, applications and technical knowledge through the implementation of solutions. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring the platform or service is continually evolved to meet changing customer requirements. The role holder should leverage the experience of the relevant BT wide professional communities to discharge these responsibilities, thus ensuring knowledge sharing extends beyond the functional boundary of the role - especially interaction with equivalent integration, network, security and infrastructure teams from similar large scale platforms (BT.com, RAN, IPP) to share best practice. What you'll be doing To work as part of an agile development team To deliver user stories on time and to quality To consider in life and operational support teams in their deliveries To improve knowledge and practices and to share with the wider team Uphold and encourage engineering practises such as test first, automated testing, pair programming and continuous integration. To work with other teams across BT and externally to provide the best solution and service to our customers To work with the Sport integration team to resolve integration issues between new versions of the BT Sport client. To present working software to sponsors and customers. To draft reports and make recommendations to managers and project sponsors as required. To work with the Client Devices in-life team to try to reproduce reports of in-life problems. To work with internal, external and third party suppliers: TCS, MetaBroadcast, Deltra-Tre, AVS, YoSpace, Conviva and Adobe. To act as a key contributor and provide expert advice to other groups on technical and operational issues, e.g. BT operational support teams To formulate improvement activities to transform and improve the way that activities are conducted to reduce time, cost or increase quality/reduce defects. For example automated deployment and test tools. To personally participate in and contribute to BT wide professional community activities where applicable e.g. knowledge sharing, best practice within BT and external industry. To use the relevant BT wide professional community framework to raise their skills and those of their team to the recommended PC standards.
