Job Title: Thermal Generation Safety Health and Environment Manager Location: Perth, Glasgow, Leeds or Warrington Salary: Circa £51,250 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus Permanent| Full Time Hours = with flexible working patterns available Our Role At SSE, Safety is at the heart of everything we do. As a key member of the Wholesale SHE Leadership Team you will be responsible for supporting the operational SHE delivery for the Thermal Generation business within Wholesale. Reporting to the Head of SHE - Wholesale, and having direct management responsibility for a small specialist team, you will support the Thermal Generation Management Team in their endeavours to keep people, assets and the environment safe from harm by actively applying and promoting SHE policies and standards across the group. You will have key responsibility for ensuring that SHE Operations is a trusted and valued partner within the Thermal Generation Management Team, the wider SHE Team and across the SSE Group, keeping people and the environment safe as assets are developed, delivered, operated and decommissioned. This will include the provision of the necessary support and guidance for the Directorate to manage their SHE risks. Furthermore, you will ensure that consistent standards are applied on the type and quality of SHE communications to all relevant stakeholders within the SHE Wholesale Operations team and the wider SHE function. There will also be a requirement for you to complete due diligence exercises, SHE assessments/audits of businesses, organisations and contractors as and when applicable. You will work closely with the Thermal Generation business to deliver the Safety Family requirements in line with the Safety Family Programme, ensuring that it is delivered in a clear, consistent and frequent way including working with preferred/strategic contractors to develop stronger, safer and respectful relationships. You will also provide guidance and support to Local Safety Groups. Your Skills and Experience To be successful in this role, you should hold an undergraduate qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management, and/or hold a scientific, engineering or equivalent qualification along with sufficient industry experience. Furthermore, you will be a registered member of IOSH, or an equivalent accrediting body (or be willing to work towards). You will have experience of working in a high hazardous industry and have a sound working knowledge of SHE regulations in the UK and Ireland in line with SSE Business Environments. You will have a good understanding of SHE Management Systems, SHE Risks and the UK and Ireland legal framework, along with a good eye for spotting business opportunities. You should be an excellent communicator with a natural flair for forging relationships with key stakeholders at all levels. You will have the ability to work and deliver against challenging constraints along with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team. A problem solver and critical thinker, you will have the ability to address complex issues by making them simple through a structured systematic approach, understand SHE risks and be able to advise and assist in the implementation of appropriate solutions. Above all, you will demonstrate an awareness of both personal and Corporate SHE practices. Due to the level of mobility required in this role a full driving license is essential.
