Data Centre Manager - Banking

Our client is seeking a Data Centre Manager - Banking with experience of the below. The initial contract runs unto December 2018 with extension likely and you will be working for a leading Financial Services organisation based in Northampton.

The role

An experienced Data Centre manager is required to manage Data Centre hardware installation, move and decommission projects. The role will include co-ordination and detailed planning of multiple projects including reviewing technical designs of hardware to be installed. The role is for a senior Data Centre manager coming from a technical background with proven project management skills and experience.

The role will involve building and tracking project plans against target dates. It will also be necessary to maintain, track, report and facilitate the resolution of risks and issues. This will require engagement with other technical teams at a task level to ensure smooth installation / move / removal of equipment.

Requires experienced knowledge of IT systems and organisations and an ability to work in a high pressured and challenging environment.

Out of hours work will be necessary so flexibility of working is essential.

The responsibilities

* Manage the move plan of blocks of Infrastructure to ensure it meets the entry criteria for moving to New Data Centre's
* Review of technical designs, identification of missing components and potential issues and follow through to resolution
* Produce High Level and Detailed plans for the installation, move or decommission of infrastructure in or between sites
* Produce High Level and Detailed movement plans in conjunction with Infrastructure, Systems, Service, Change and Operations teams
* Raise change requests as appropriate ensuring that they are fully approved
* Arrange for equipment to be moved on planned move day and arrange access to premises of sending and receiving sites raising requests as required
* Arrange for equipment installation and cabling following delivery design
* Arrange for packing and moving of equipment as required
* Monitor, manage and escalate issues where required
* Report detailed progress on regular basis during the event lifecycle to stakeholders
* Manage and work with virtual teams across multiple technical areas to complete projects
* Related tasks that may be reasonably required supporting the Infrastructure Team objectives

Essential Skills:

* Proven experience of managing infrastructure for Data Centre installations
* Proven large scale IT Project management experience including proven tools and methodologies
* Knowledge of infrastructure required to support IT server, Storage and Communications devices (requirements include power, cabling and racking), the relationships between them and the processes required to provision / install them
* Experience / knowledge of Storage solutions (EMC, IBM, HP 3Par, NetApp, Brocade SAN)
* Experience / knowledge of various server architectures (Windows, Solaris, AIX and Linux)
* Experience / knowledge of Network concepts (TCP/IP, Firewalls, switches, routers, load balancers)
* Good communications skills to work across disparate teams
* Excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications (primarily Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Experience using change control / workflow systems
* Strong Teamwork and collaboration skills
* High level of Professionalism and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of the delivery lifecycle
* Ability to operate in dynamic environment.

Desirable Skills:

* PRINCE 2 or equivalent Project Management qualification
* ITIL Foundation or higher
