The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) is required to support various projects ensuring that delivered systems meet customer and design requirements for function, performance and qualification in all its aspects. The PEM will lead engineering teams, and work with suppliers and customers on projects that are of strategic importance to the business and/or of significant value, complexity and duration. Working closely with a Project Manager, the PEM must effectively plan and manage the engineering effort within projects from a technical, schedule and cost perspective.
The role requires a candidate who is self-motivated and enthusiastic, with strong leadership and behavioural skills. The ability to foster and develop effective working relationships is key to ensuring that engineers perform to the levels required of the project. A strong commercial and business awareness is also essential to ensure that the engineering effort can be managed within the correct context for each given project or programme.
Key Responsibility Areas
*Management of multi-disciplined engineering teams. Working closely with project and sub-contract managers, the PEM is responsible for delivery of the overall engineering output on time, cost and performance budgets. *Responsible for generating strong engineering plans, establishing key milestones, forecasts and identifying/managing risk, opportunity and interdependencies. *Managing the engineering effort through the establishment and support of a work package framework throughout the project execution. *Continual review of the status of engineering within a project, adapting plans as required to mitigate risks to cost, schedule and performance budgets. *Participate in contract status reviews, design reviews, and supplier progress reviews, and produce targets for action closure.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required:
*Experience of management within a Defence-related Prime Contractor is highly desirable. *Educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering or engineering related discipline. *Previous experience of successfully managing and/or leading multi-disciplined engineering teams within any of the following disciplines. *Radar and Communication detection systems. *High Power Transmission systems, such as radars, communication or Jamming. *Integrated multi-location systems and mission control. *Communications systems, including radio and satellite. *Platform level design and integration of systems within a Land or Maritime environment. *Strong understanding of and proven track record of implementing engineering lifecycles and processes. *Experience of successful application of Earned Value Management practices. *Experience in UK MOD or other defence related areas. Holding, or be capable of attaining, UK SC security clearance. *Equipment and systems integration within military vehicles. *Knowledge of RF systems (e.g. RADHAZ, interference, grounding etc.), including Defence Electronic Warfare (EW) or Radar/Communication systems, techniques and products. *Understanding and experience of the application of transversal engineering disciplines (Environmental & EMC Qualification, Safety, Security, Human Factors, ARM, ILS)

This is an office-based role using display screen equipment and working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment, with occasional travel throughout the UK and abroad.
