Your Responsibilities: As part of our efforts to maintain and continuously improve Fermentation performance within Antibiotics production we are looking for you to join our team as a Fermentation Technologist at our site in Irvine, Scotland. Typical challenges you will face in this role include optimising usage of raw materials, minimising energy waste and looking for new production methods to increase batch output. It is an essential role on site which is needed to ensure that we can deliver enough products to meet the demand of our patients at the end of our supply chain. Your day to day role will include • Providing technical support for the troubleshooting of processing issues. • Managing the performance of the fermentation processes • Assisting in the development and implementation of longer term improvement plans • Develop key performance indicators to monitor performance • Ensure that technical led projects are delivered in line with customer expectations • Identify and carry out optimisation programs to improve performance with respect to yield efficiency, cost of production, safety and technical governance. • Ensure all processes are fully compliant with appropriate regulations • Drive a safe and compliant operation and culture About GSK Irvine The Irvine factory is less than 20 miles from the birthplace of Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin. In 1947 he opened the Beecham research centre in Surrey where the Penicillin molecule was first discovered. The factory was commissioned in 1973 to carry out an entirely new pharmaceutical process the manufacture of Penicillin G. This was a significant step towards global supply of semi-synthetic antibiotics. 41 years later, the factory is one of GSK's strategic manufacturing sites. At GSK Irvine we produce over 2,500 tonnes of antibiotics every year - enough to support 250 million patients at the end of the penicillin supply chain.
